FAQ About COVID-19

Cognitive Impairments

At APTOW we strive to treat each person individually according to their unique needs. Our team of Occupational and Physical therapists collaborate to treat the whole person. In the area of Head injury or neurological impairments we look at what is needed in each case.

Some people may have dizziness or headaches that are related to visual problems, ocular muscle problems or a neck injury. These issues are assessed and specific treatments given to optimize recovery. Other people may have memory problems that impair their ability to complete their job, fulfill social obligations, or keep their homes running smoothly.

Adaptations and treatments to promote better function in these areas are given according to need. If a person has muscle weakness, we work on strengthening the muscles and increasing function. Neglect and sensory changes, where a person is not able to see or feel a part of their body or a part is overly sensitive, may occur. At APTOW these problems are treated with care and a tender touch. When the nervous system is injured it can be very difficult for the person and their family. APTOW is here to assist. Some of the treatments we use include but are not limited to:

  • Ocular Exercises and Visual perceptual activities
  • Movement activities
  • Desensitization
  • Orientation and memory activities
  • Relaxation
  • Balance
